چکیده

In this paper, we present an analytical TCP model that takes into account of several issues that were ignored in the other existing models (such as those in [15], [19]), i.e., (i) the congestion window is not gradually decreased at the rate of w 2p 2 , but suddenly halved upon receipt of congestion indication and (ii) the congestion window is halved at most once during one roundtrip time (RTT). We also include the delayed ACK option in the model. With the use of state feedback control theory, we then design, based on the enhanced TCP model, an AQM controller to stabilize the queue length at routers. The performance of the new controller is shown, via ns-2 simulation to outperform several other schemes under a variety of network scenarios and traffic loads, in terms of fluctuation in the queue length, link utilization, and packet loss ratio.

Complementing Current Active Queue Management Schemes with Receiver- Window Modification (RWM)

Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) and Active Queue Management Schemes such as Random Early Detection (RED), Adaptive Random Early Detection (ARED) and BLUE queues have been proposed for TCP/IP networks to compensate network congestion. However, using ECN requires that ECN be supported by both TCP senders and receivers. This paper presents a novel AQM modification called Receiver-Window Mod...

Application of control theory to a window-based flow control mechanism with ECN routers

A window-based flow control mechanism is a sort of feedback-based congestion control mechanisms, and has been widely used in current TCP/IP networks. Recently, use of an ECN (Explicit Congestion Notification) mechanism as congestion indication from the network to source hosts has been actively discussed in the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). In this paper, we focus on a window-based flo...

TCP Rate Control Using Active ECN Mechanism with RTT-Based Marking Probability

The end-to-end TCP congestion control based on a window flow control mechanism can cause unfairness among multiple TCP connections with different RTT (round trip time), dut to its non-uniform increase of the rate. In order to achieve the fairness among TCP connections, we propose a rate control scheme using ECN (Explicit Congestion Notification) on TCP congestion control. At an ECN-implemented ...

Predicting bottleneck bandwidth sharing by generalized TCP flows

The paper presents a technique for computing the individual throughputs and the average queue occupancy when multiple TCP connections share a single bottleneck buffer. The bottleneck buffer is assumed to perform congestion feedback via randomized packet marking or drops. We first present a fixed point-based analytical technique to compute the mean congestion window sizes, the mean queue occupan...
